Box Hill Hospital Redevelopment

Box Hill, Victoria

The $447.5 million project located on Arnold Street completes stage one of the Hospitals’ transformation and is now the major referral centre for Melbourne’s East, meeting the growing demand for services in this region. This exciting new facility includes a new, larger emergency department with 19 extra cubicles, a new 18 bed intensive care unit, 60 consult rooms, more inpatient wards, seven new operating theatres, three endoscopy/minor procedure refurbished theatres as well as a dedicated precinct for women’s health services.

Other new facilities include inpatient and day cancer treatment and cardiac catheter laboratories. Additional imaging services are also collocated with the new emergency department.

The new Box Hill Hospital was delivered by the Victorian Department of Health working closely together with Eastern Health with planning and design services delivered by Silver Thomas Hanley in Joint Venture with Jackson Architecture. The project was completed ahead of schedule and accommodates an additional 200 beds and officially opened on August 12th 2014.

STH understands the hospital operating environment very well which enables strategic planning to minimize disruption and costly multiple temporary services decanting.
