Ryde Hospital Redevelopment

Ryde, New South Wales

Responsive Design

Studio STH have been engaged by Health Infrastructure NSW to deliver the Ryde Hospital Redevelopment for the Northern Sydney LHD. The development will require a multi staged redevelopment that includes decanting, enabling work, early work and main works as key phases, while maintaining a live hospital with no interruption to services provided. The site has multiple site constraints and opportunities that include bushfire consideration with the Blue Gum High Forest on site, two state significant heritage buildings and maintaining connection to the existing rehabilitation and community mental health facilities.

STH have developed a facility solution on a campus that has no immediately apparent development site. We have done this by identifying an area of the site which offered the largest development area opportunity with the least decanting, and then conceptualising 2 main development stages. Through careful consideration of the operational requirements in consultation with the LHD we were able to ensure that there was no loss of clinical service capability and that operational continuity could be maintained at all times.

The proposed development will include Emergency, Medical Imaging, Outpatients, Pharmacy, Pathology, Inpatient Units, Administration, training & Education spaces and Back of House and Engineering departments increasing role delineation from 3 to 4/5. A strong collaborative approach with integration of interiors, architecture, landscaping, and wayfinding responding to a strong Connection to Country strategy has delivered a responsive design.
